What is Udyam?

Udyam is the current MSME registration on the government portal. It replaced older Udyog Aadhaar papers. The filing is online, free, and based on self-declaration.

Who can apply?

A proprietorship, partnership, company, LLP or similar enterprise in manufacturing, services or trade can apply if it fits the investment and turnover limits for micro, small or medium.

Micro, small and medium — the idea

The class depends on two figures together: investment in plant and machinery / equipment, and annual turnover. Cross either limit for a class and you move up. Exact limits are set by the Ministry of MSME and should be checked on the official portal before you file.

Why businesses take Udyam

• Banks and NBFCs ask for it on many small-business loans
• Preference in some government tenders
• A route to raise delayed-payment issues under MSME rules
• A standard number to print on invoices and profiles

Official portal only

Registration is free on udyamregistration.gov.in. There is no government fee. Be careful of look-alike sites that charge for the same filing.

You do not upload a pile of scans. The portal pulls PAN and GST data on its own where it can.
